Santorini is a caldera rim, and almost every decision here is about position and time of day. Sunset in Oia is the island's set piece and also its worst crowd; boats leave the crowd behind entirely.
The island is small but the roads are narrow and the buses fill. Anything involving a departure time — a catamaran, a ferry, a flight — needs a bigger buffer than the distance suggests.
